Dear former students,

This is Dr. Lo. You received this message because you are one of my former students in the past. I would like to inform you that we are offering the once-a-year News Photo II class in spring 2014.
This course will be concentrating mainly on shooting news and documentary video and on-location lighting in still photography.

The meeting time is Tuesday and Friday.

A tentative syllabus is attached.

I.    Catalog Description: COMM 1317, News Photography II (3-2-3)  17207
(Prerequisite required: taken and passed either one of the following: Comm 1316 News photo I or Comm2311 News Gathering and Writing I)
Meeting hours: Tuesday 12:15 p.m. - 3:55 p.m., Friday 1: :00 p.m. - 1:50 p.m.
This course aims to train students to be an entry-level photojournalist. Building on the basic knowledge students learned in COMM 1316, News Photography I, this course will aim to teach student up-to-date knowledge and skills newspapers and magazines require their photo staff to know and perform. Therefore, in addition to learning how to shoot quality still news photos, this course will also include learning how to shoot video and creating multimedia slideshows.
Learning methods of this course include lectures, homework tryouts and presentation critiques. Students will also have the opportunity to acquire real world working experience from shooting for The Ranger newspaper and The Ranger Online.

Grading Structure
The final grade of this course is composed of the followings:

Bonus (extra 5%)
      An extra 5% will be awarded to students who do extra works. Details will be further discussed in class.

Snowball fight and more

Finally, the newsroom was slow enough for me to search for some interesting photos of my own this afternoon. Here are some of the photos I took at the "Winter Fun Fest" at the mall area in front of Moody. I don't particularly like CYA overall shots although it is always good to have some when you cover assignments. I like photos of particular individual or group of individuals who interact with each other because these kind of photos always have a better focal point that attracts the viewers' eyes.

The last two cents for the semester.
